Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is to create an inclusive classroom that will allow students to flourish in their social, emotional and practical skills learning. I believe a classroom should be a safe space for all students to share ideas without fear of persecution, and should encourage the collaboration of skills and ideas. The aim of education is to produce productive, healthy members of society who are equipped with the tools necessary to navigate and thrive in their community. The role of the teacher is to facilitate this learning in an individualized manner for each student, as much as is possible, and to continue learning throughout their teaching career. Education should focus on developing social and practical life skills in order to prepare students to transition into the ‘real world’. When put into practice my educational philosophy looks like a respectful relationship between all members of the classroom. Without this respect the students cannot engage in their education, and without engagement meaningful learning cannot take place.
